When we first began talking with the teachers about this project, we knew immediately we wanted the kids to be able to contribute artistically! The students decided they wanted to include the schools mission statement, Education is Freedom, so they picked words that described what education means to them and wrote them out on a worksheet we made, just for them! We took their handwritten names and words and transformed them into a design for their class shirt.
The kids had fun finding their names on the film we brought to the class. Mrs. Plew brought the film around so each and every student had a chance to find their name! We also brought a few different designs on film so students could practice lining up registration marks on 2, 3, and 5 color artwork.
The kids were infactuated with the plastisol ink. They all resisted the urge to touch the ink and waited patiently in line to get their shirt printed by Brittney! The kids had lots of great questions while they waited. Here are a few of our faves:
I'm sure you see a trend happening.
We finished the shirts off with a good ol' heat press. The kids each picked up a Printed Theory sticker and a pen after picking up their finished class shirt. The shirts weren't in their hands for long before they ran to their teachers asking if they could change into their new shirt. The kids were seriously so excited to wear what they helped to create.
Voila! Cool shirts for some really cool 5th graders.
